Chehalis Basin Local Action Non-Dam Altnerative
2022 - ONGOING
The Local Actions Non-Dam Alternatives (LAND) is a collaborative effort to identify and evaluate potential options to a proposed flood retention dam on the upper Chehalis River that can reduce flood damage while maintaining the region’s cultural, ecological and economic integrity. This $1.25 - $1.9 billion plan puts forward a combination of new and extended setback levees; increased Chehalis River conveyance; acquisition, retrofitting, and relocation of structures; floodplain reconnection efforts; and local land use policy changes that together will reduce flood damage without the need for a new dam.

Together with Tribal and NGO partners, I worked to develop the scope of the LAND, secure over $1 million in funding, hire the consultant team, and guide its development as a member of the LAND Steering Group.

This project is occurring while I am employed at American Rivers.
